PSAT 8/9 Overview Course
Session Date: Monday October 7th 6-8pm

The PSAT 8/9, is a common assessment offered by many high schools as a data entry point for students transitioning into their high school career.  While a good elementary education is the best preparation; Code Play Learn is proud to partner with Paul Wright  to lead our PSAT 8/9 Overview to familiarize students with the exam content areas and format of the test.

The 2-hour course session will focus on understanding the test sections, formatting of questions, content area testing strategies, and general test taking tips.  At the end of class session, students will receive 1-2 hours of test prep homework to review for the exam, a practice exam, and a variety of other study resources to prepare for the exam through our teacher to student platform REMIND.com.

The reading section of the PSAT 8/9 lasts for 55 minutes and in it, you’ll answer 42 multiple choice questions that are based on a variety of reading passages between 550-750 words long.

The writing section of the PSAT 8/9 consists of 40 passage-based multiple-choice questions. These questions ask you to make revisions and edit the passages for grammatical and punctuation errors. The writing section has a time limit of 30 minutes.

The math section of the PSAT 8/9, is broken up into a calculator (40 minutes) and non-calculator (20 minutes) sections. Math content will cover skills in three primary areas: Algebra, Problem Solving and Data Analysis, and  Advanced Math. There are 38 questions in total, with 31 being multiple choice and seven being student-produced responses (Grid Fill-in).

Students who attend the course will walk away from the course having a better understanding of what to expect on exam day, lower level of test anxiety, and be more familiar with the exam format and question structure.

Code Play Learn cannot promise a higher score or guarantee entrance into a selective high school program.
